The first carousel in Golden Gate Park, circa 1900   A tin horn with a porcelain mouthpiece that was given to children on the opening day of the playground in 1888.

A carousel workshop   Carousel operators would throw a coat of "Park Paint" on the animals. When stripping an animal for restoration it is not uncommon to remove 7 coats of paint.
